Naturopathic Principles

Naturopathic Medicine begins with a scientific approach to understanding the human body and employs the body’s inert ability to heal itself using medicines found in nature to initiate the process.

Fresh Medicine

Primum non nocere - First, do no harm

This is part of an oath that all doctors take. Having a solid understanding of the human body, dis-ease and an in-depth knowledge of proposed treatment is essential. It is vital that Naturopathic Doctors be educated at accredited Medical Schools (see www.cnme.org) and continue to study throughout their careers.

Vis Medicatrix Naturae - The healing power of nature

The human body is magical in it’s ability to regenerate.  The cause of illness or obstacle to cure must be determined and then removed.  During the healing process natural substances such as vitamins, minerals and herbs are used to correct imbalances.

Tollem causum - Treat the underlying cause

Treating symptoms is necessary to provide comfort, but without addressing cause, the disease process will continue and manifest in another way.  Turning up the volume on the radio only masks the rattle in the engine for so long.

Tollem totale - Treat the whole person

Physical symptoms can be aggravated or caused by social or emotional stresses, and emotional upset can have very physical causes.  In order to obtain wellness, consideration must be given to all components of an individual.

Docere - Teacher

The latin derivation of doctor translates to teacher. Giving a person the understanding of illness and wellness empowers them to make the changes necessary to live healthfully.
